As I drove through campus today at my Alma mater, I was struck by the students walking on their way to class. No, it wasn't their age or their dress that I noticed, but the new appendage attached to their ears or hands...the "smart phone" or the i Pod. It made me sad.
They didn't see the beautiful blue sky or the new Spring growth on the trees. They were oblivious to the smile on the face of the cute girl or guy they just passed. They didn't hear the birds chirping or the Century Tower chimes. They weren't soaking in the surroundings of what one day will be viewed as the best time of their lives. No, they were caught up in the moment...in the texts...the tweets...the facebook postings...the Words with Friends...the Angry Birds...and they missed life.
I need a hug. I am officially an old fart!
Many hugs,
Kathy
